How to view multiple pages side by side?

How can I view two pages side by side? There's plenty of room on my widescreen display to show two pages. I realize that I can make a single very large page, but would prefer to be able to open two separate smaller pages and quickly switch between them.

Yes you can do this! There's actually a forum post with screenshots that describes this, which you can see here:
