    New style barres

    Hey all,

I've had a few questions in the past about changing how barres look so I've been experimenting a bit... Here's some examples of what I've come up with:

I'm aiming to add this to v1.9, assuming it meets with approval!

Will still keep the existing 'barre' tool, but wil rename it a 'curved connection' which is probably more accurate So this new barre tool will have a new icon next to the existing one in the toolbox.

Let me know what you think!

    Glad you guys like it!

The barres have a uniform height regardless of how many strings they span, but was thinking maybe it'd be better if they weren't so then the angles would be similar? Then those across fewer strings would be smaller rather than squashed? (Look at the 'B major' fretboard to see what I mean)

I've tweaked the barres as I explained above (or tried to!). Here's some images of the first pass and the improvement, for some horizontal and vertical boards.

The difference is more obvious on the horizontal boards where the adjacent barres don't run into each other...

    FIRST PASS VERTICALS:

    IMPROVED VERTICALS:

    FIRST PASS HORIZONTALS:

Putting this one to bed now and cracking on with the remaining bits for 1.9!

Now that I'm finally getting closer to wrapping up v1.9 I had a thought about this, brought on from a question from someone doing some v1.9 beta-testing...

I've left the old barres as they are - your pages won't suddenly change. The old barre tool has a new icon, a curved line connection. The old barre tool icon will now create the new style barres.

    Q1 - is that confusing?!?!

Q2 - are you going to want to replace your old barres with the new style ones?

If the answer to Q2 is YES then I'm thinking I should add a prompt for when you first run v1.9 - it'll show you a little comparison pic and ask if you want ND to examine your pages and update the old barres to the new style, where possible (*).

(*) where possible, as I don't think I mentioned in a previous post that you can only use the new style barre across the same fret...

    Whaddyathink?!?

Doesn't sound confusing in the least.

Yes, I'd like to replace my old bars, as I'd imagine many might! The prompt sounds like a good compromise that will meet each need as far as the old bars are concerned.
